Laytonsville, MD – Ruppert Landscape is proud to sponsor Breeze Thru The Trees, a 5k race and kids fun run hosted by the Ruppert siblings on the family’s 600-acre tree farm in Laytonsville, MD. The event will be held on Sunday, June 12th with proceeds benefitting Red Wiggler Community Farm, a sustainable farm where people with and without developmental disabilities come together to work, learn and grow healthy food.
“In a time when dissension makes headlines, cooperation, kindness, teamwork and inclusion need a voice,” said Sophie Ruppert Felts, the eldest of the Ruppert siblings. “We know that it takes work to understand people who are different from ourselves and to find a common ground and mission. We hope that this run will be a way to make coming together as a community fun and a way to support an organization that brings the vision of a healthy and inclusive community to life.”
“We are also excited to be able to share the tree farm with the community,” said Jack Ruppert. The 5k cross-country course will be flat and fast, winding through rows of evenly spaced trees, around a solar field and lush green fields at Ruppert Nurseries and Ruppert Landscape headquarters. Walkers are welcome and will start in the second wave. The race will be timed by Bullseye Running and awards will be given to the top three men and women finishers with results posted online. “Seasoned runners as well as joggers and walkers will love this course,” continued Ruppert. “In addition to the 5k, there will be a half-mile ‘fun run’ that is perfect for kids, people with special needs or anyone wanting to run a shorter distance.”
The event will feature locally brewed beer from Waredaca Brewing Company (for participants 21 and older) and other refreshments including free hamburgers and hotdogs. Musical entertainment will be provided by KSEF Entertainment and there will be activities for children. Runners will receive a race shirt featuring the Breeze Thru The Trees logo designed by Harper Maven Co. and will be greeted at the finish line with a posy of fresh flowers from Blossom & Vine and other local growers. The event will be photographed by Sarah Beth Tapanes of Photos by Sarah Beth with images available on the website after the race. Registration for the 5k costs $27 when purchased before June 11th and $35 on June 11th and 12th. The Kids Fun Run is open to children of all ages free of cost. Runners can register for the 5k here.
